i'm thinking about selling my last 3 daoc accounts and starting up a new mmorpg but there doesn't seem to be any good one's out atm.
swg is just terrible. beta for it sucked hard core i'm not gonna spend money to play that.
ac2 is so bad they are merging servers cos there aren't enough ppl playing it.
WoW won't be out for a while.
Eve sucks as there is no pvp at all.
I haven't heard much about planetside (sounds sorta like ww2online was).
is there actually a good mmorpg out right now that is worth playing?

Planetside was fun for three months (The first few months of beta wer ebuggy, laggy, and dull, the last month was a blast, and two months of subscription lets you do everything repeatedly till boredom of the most magnificant sort sets in), but really has very little lasting value once all your buddies leave.
SWG is the most horrid thing since rancid butter.
AC2 is ass. Nice looking ass, but still, ass. Like exgirlfriend ass. You think it wasn't as bad as it was, but when you think about going again, you feel sick and realize you still have brain tramau.
All space mmo's are disapointing in the most.
Shadowbane is fugly, boring, and dull. But, zero lag. I played for a whole three weeks.
Everquest makes me cry. Love hate relationship, I'm glad I got out when I did, but I miss my doggies.
For all the problems DAOC has, it's a the "best" bet for a one box purchase... I won't reinstall it, but phun and subby seem to dig it.
AO is apperantly no longer hairy man-ass, but is now Lady-next-door-who-picks-up-the-mail-in-a-nighty-but-you-should-be-dating-her-daughters ass. Potentially ok, greatly improved, but still, lacking.
SOE has let zero info out about eq2 post e3. So who the hell knows.
WoW is nearly a year off, beta probably won't show till q4, and it will be flooded with 12 year old retards you'll have to step over in the newbie areas before going off to slay teh dragon with the big boys from ex-eq uber guilds. Fine by me really, they'll be doubly impressed by your tamed green dragon, or flaming sword of dewm.
UO is still UO. If you like it, nothing has changed. If you thought it sucked making furinture all day, run. Quickly.
Lineage is diablo meets UO with subtitles.
City Of Hero's has to suck... I mean, it has to. How can it not. Everybody is a super hero? Yay. Flying-strong-man LFG. Group of 4 LF Ice-man, meet at fourth and oaks.
Dragon empires is iffy like week past expired milk.
Priest is cool sounding.. but iffy in design.
The new guild-based MORPGS from MS look interesting. No didicated servers or monthly fee, no Massively, nice graphics, but if you don't play with a guild, yer SOL.
Whats left? Horizons? Should be out in a buy-one-get-one-free with Duke Nukem forever. $5 off coupon inside for TF2.

I like SWG alot, they've changed quite a bit since beta and I can't help but feel drawn to playing it ..way too much.
If you're looking for PvP though then move along...

how has swg changed since beta? i played beta and it was a mess right before release so it didn't seem worth paying to play it.

I couldn't figure out why I couldn't log in one day to SWG beta, head to the forums to find out beta was over...
I could NOT beleive they released it in the state it was in. Quests fubar, doors fubar, NPCs not being remotely where they need to be (like, say, not underground or in a wall), ever so wonderfull character bugs (Logged in more times than I can remember to find my character with completly random skills and stats).
What a mess... It still had more problems than windows95 did opening day.
Even if they fix them all, the complete lack of insight in putting the entirety of the economy and high end game on the players is mindboggling. That's akin to shooting a movie with no plot and main character, or writing a book with no finale. Just sloppy design and 100% greed.
And they never did fix the damn wookies... walking multihued turds since day one of beta2. =(

i dunno lead. i actually like that end game is entirely up to the players. the turn off to me is the bugs from beta. even playing the last week before release, the game was so buggy you couldn't do 1/2 the quests, you'd log out at point A and log in and be at point B, bugs w/ you skills it saying skill C just went up when actually skill D did, etc etc...
did they actually fix all the bugs or is it still the total joke it was in beta? (hell one time i logged on in beta and morphed races)

At the moment not a single multi-million dollar corporate funded professional game design team has laid claim to an end game that did not suck total and complete ass.
But Joe and Bob casual-player will?
It's like selling a car with a box of parts in the trunk that the owner can install himself later. Sure the car runs without that muffler or airbag, and it keeps the cost down (Less labour you know), but still. A total 'How could any developer think this is alright" and a howdy-doo to the allmighty SOE cabinet of screw-ups and bad ideas.
I so wanted SWG to rock. =( I was even willing to role play...

Been playing for about 2 weeks now and haven't seen any of those bugs that you've mentioned. I get lag once in awhile but that's about it...
Oh and on like 1/20 missions I don't get paid, but I think they fixed it up pretty well.
I so wanted SWG to rock. =( I was even willing to role play...
This is the reason I dont like MMRPG's
HAIL!

But in swg roleplaying a wookie would be fun, because they can't chat.
ME: WroooooOOOOOOooooooooooo *hop hop*
Dude1: EH?
Dude2: I think he wants to loot the trooper
ME: RaaaaarrrRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrGggggggggh *Point west*
Dude1: Um
ME: *Rips arm off of Dude1 and beats him with it, then Dances*
Dude2: Oh, he says yer an asshat from Coruscant.
ME: Nods approvingly.
