View Full Version : Bought my gun!!
Welp, I broke down and bought my gun finally. I got the Spyder shutter package from I & I sports. Included a gun, mask, harness, hopper and elbow, full 20oz tank, squeegee, oil and someother nick nacks. Since I don't need the mask (already got one) I will sell the one I just got for the discounted price I paid for it. $35. One thing I thought was neat is that there is a gauge on the regulator. Now the guy at the shop told me something different than what is in the instructions, and maybe some folks here could help me understand this better.
There are two things.
1. The velocity control on the back of the gun sets the velocity at which balls are shot. Sc Village sets the cap at 285. This control is what I use to calibrate the gun.
2. the regualator gauge tells me the pressure of the air passing through the regulator. This can influence the velocity of the ball as well.
The guy at the shop said I should have the regulator gauge say 500 at all times. The manual says 700-800. The guy at the shop also stated that if I get it calibrated and they can't adjust it right, they will snip a spring and then I will have to get it replaced.
SO before I let someone mess with my gun lke that, can anyone explain how 1. the velocity control works 2. the regulator gauge works 3. how they work together 4. What and why would they even think of jacking someones gun?
Thanks (Does Subby look like a newbie now or what? =])

Congrats!
What kind of mask and what model?
Snipping the spring is a last resort thing... if your velocity adjuster is unable to acheive a proper chronograph level (285).
OR - you can buy a spring set for your spyder... they are cheap and allow you to replace springs based on what your C02 is doing on a particular day... ambient tempature affects velocity by quite a deal in some cases. I have had to snip a spring before, and it's no big deal. However - avoid it if you can. Also, the stronger the spring, the higher the velocity.... turning your adjuster out reduces velocity - turning it in increases velocity.
The kits come with varying degrees of springs, based on colors relative to strength or tension. Usually, the stock spring is optimal for most situations.
As to the reguator, I'm not yet familar with that model, so I would ask a quailified individual.... I would go with factory specs until you prove otherwise.
Get some paint and find a chrono and do some testing... most shops and fields have 'em. That's what I would do.... Don't wait until the day of the game to experiment.

hahahha.....Geg outta know what the velocity adjuster does....
Geg:"Guys, i think i may have to cut my spring.....i just don't know why my gun won't chrono up...."
Me:"reely.....thats odd."
Geg:"Ya. It was chronoing fine, and now it's acting up..."
Me:"You sure your adjuster knob is as far as it will go?"
Geg:"Ya, it's turned in all the way..."
Me:"I know why your gun won't chrono..."
Geg:"Why???"
Me:"CAUSE YOU TURNED YOUR KNOB IN THE WRONG WAY! It goes out to lessen the ball-speed!!!"
Geg:"Oh...oops."
hahahha, it was the funniest thing i ever saw....im sure the other guys could say the same. http://www.fr3nsyc.net/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.fr3nsyc.net/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.fr3nsyc.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

Me and virus are going to go shopping for matching shoes to go with the gun. I told him since it's winter he should splurge and get the a matching shawl as well.

yeah cause the were only letting 20 people hide behind the same plank of wood. Which was okay cause being an airsoft player I know how to actually move to get in the action. Little did I know pb guns are excellent at shooting out a perfect sillouhette<sp?> of your target without actually hitting your target.
