Hey again guys! Sorry, but I must be on the school vibe, because I have yet another school-related question. I just went to a college fair, and Duke University was there. Now I asked the girl that was at their stand (she is attending Duke) some questions and one thing that she said really hit home. My brother is a senior in high school so I've been listening to the conversations between my parents and him, and the main thing in all the college magazines and what not say to be an "all around student." So I thought about that a lot, and I thought of ways to be an all around student. I thought about places where I would be placed in a leadership role and actually do something with it. So there is a Key Club at our school that organizes volunteer activities, and I wanted to know from you guys what you think would be some good suggestions to do as volunteer work. Next year most of the officers will be leaving, and since I will be an upperclassmen, I have a really good shot at making President / VP of Key Club. So, I was just curious as to maybe some projects that you guys did in years past, or some you plan to do (all of you still in High School :P).

Also, in all seriousness, keep the replies on topic and thoughful. Thanks!

well, I'm not too old, so I couldn't give you many suggestions about voulenteer ideas...I was thinking, though, it would probably be a good idea to contact someone in your city council and ask what can be done. I know that I've done it in the past, and it reely helps to do that, since there's always jobs in the city. So ask around, it's reely very useful.<br clear=all>

So hey if you go commit a crime and get caught, not too serious tho, the judge will give you all sorts of volunteer options.

Okay man little bit of advice for ya...
think about yourself... think about what you have fun doing...

i've been thinking about this alot since i've gotten my job at the video store down the street... working there has been a blast... i get to rent people their entertainment and advise them in what to watch and they're hella friendly about it. well if i could live off that salary, i probably would try to. but man seriously, dont think so much about immedietly getting into a good school unless you seriously enjoy everything schools have to offer then i suggest doing whatever the fuck you can to get into the best school you can.

but i'm not sure exactly how to inform you of my recent epiphany, but i've decided that college is important, but only if it gets you where you would like to be.. for me this does require college and i know i'll enjoy it but just be careful how much of the american rat race for money you fall into. i saw myself being victim to this and doing everything i could just to get into a good college but then this job made me pause and say to myself "what the hell am i doing?". You just need to be careful that you doing track onto the idea that following an academic trend is important... be who and what you want to be, dont let people tell you that you need to be successful unless you can be successful living off of money, its seriously not everything, especially if you have to bend over backwards getting to that money, you loose yourself in the work.

heh not like the way i wrote it puts any justice to the importance of it, but if you got anything out of this, keep it in mind.

i guess im just saying how all this college hype is influential and not to loose sight of yourself or your life and happiness in it... i dono

When I was in high school back in my day, I had to walk up hill to and from school in 3 feet of snow for 13 miles.

Actually back when I was in high school key club was totally lame. The really fat Betty's were in it with the tall skinny geeks that joined so that they didn't get beat up walking home from school.

Now if you have done your homework and peeked in to see if the girls are hotties go for it :-)

I got into student politics when I was a sophomore in high school. It kept me busy and it was fun spending the classes money. What I was really surprised about was the fact that Colleges actually looked at this sort of thing when you apply. People in my school actually knew who I was and after a while and you make a lot of friends.

I had one friend that found out what day the different clubs had the picture taken for the yearbook. He went to each meeting that day and made sure he was in the photo. What's hilarious is that here is this white guy in the Vietnamese club, Hispanic club, African American club, pompom club, computer club and chess club.

Bottom line - its great to get involved in these extra curricular activities. As a recruiter at a corporation - I don’t look to see what clubs people were in but I do look to see what college they went to and what their G.P.A. was.
